This year, The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has asked schools around Australia to pick a group of students who would like to shadow-judge this year's national shortlist. Pittwater House was one of those schools. With help from our librarian Ms. Eyre, a group of students from year 10 and 11 read the six shortlisted books from the older readers genre and collectively decided which book they believed was the best. After collectively reading all six books, the team was given the challenge to argue which book they believed should be the next CBCA Book of the Year in the older readers category. These students were gifted an orange butterfly badge to wear on their blazers to represent their contribution to this initiative. Our Pittwater House Sun Project decided that the two finalists would be The Boy From The Mish and Sugar Town Queens, with Sugar Town Queens winning 4-3 votes.

The results from other schools around Australia were unanimous in their voting of Sugar Town queens as the student vote for the CBCA Older Readers Book of the Year, however the adult judges decided that Tiger Daughter was the overall winner for Older Readers.
