Da Vinci Decathlon - Another year, Another success! - Insights from some of the competitors!

During Week 5 of this term (Term 2) a large group of students from 7 to 10 participated in the Da Vinci Decathlon competition hosted by Knox Grammar School. To find out more about this opportunity we interviewed three of our best journalists Elsa (Y7), Georgie (Y7) and Yarra (Y10) who participated in the competition.

  1. If you could sum up the whole competition in one word, what would it be?

Elsa: Fun

Georgie: Hard

Yarra: Stimulating

  1. What was it like?

Elsa: I found the competition really fun but hard at the same time. The best way I can describe it is hard but in an enjoyable way. I really enjoyed the team work aspect and found there was a really good work environment. I would definitely recommend participating and I would definitely participate again.

Georgie: I found the competition similar to Elsa a mix of hard and fun. I really like how many challenges were available. I would definitely participate in it again.

Yarra: I found this competition to be really fun, challenging and stimulating. I really enjoyed all the challenges available and getting involved in anything I can. I also really loved the teamwork aspect. I would definitely participate again.

  1. What activities did you complete?

Elsa: Mathematics, English, Codebreaking, Creative Producer, Legacy.

Georgie: Engineering, Cartography, Ideation, Legacy, Creative Producers.

Yarra: Science, Ideation, Creative Producers, Engineering, Codebreaking, Math, Legacy.

  1. What was your favorite challenge(s)?

Elsa: Math, Creative producers

Georgie: Engineering (add photo from georgie)

Yarra: Creative producers

  1. What was your favorite part?

Elsa: Teamwork aspect of the challenges.

Georgie: The diversity of challenges.

Yarra: My favorite part was the nature of appliances. I really enjoyed how through the Da Vinci Decathlon I was able to apply the skills and knowledge I learned in class and put into practice.

  1. Any tips for future participants?

Elsa: Have fun! One vital tip is to make sure to delegate roles of each activity at the beginning of the day. This saves so much time when it gets to completing the challenges! Another tip is to get to know each other in your team really well. It makes it so much easier to work together.

Georgie: Be prepared. The day goes by very quickly with heaps of challenges to complete, be prepared for that.

Yarra: Just have fun. Having fun is the most important thing.
